How to judge whether the vehicle shock absorber needs to be replaced?

As the core component of the vehicle suspension system, the shock absorber directly affects driving stability, comfort and safety. When the shock absorber performance declines, if it is not replaced in time, it may cause abnormal tire wear, longer braking distance and other chain problems. The following multi-dimensional analysis and judgment method helps car owners accurately identify replacement signals.

Shock Absorber

Driving quality

In daily driving, the dynamic changes of the vehicle body can intuitively reflect the state of the shock absorber. When passing through speed bumps or potholes, if the vehicle body bounces continuously for more than 3 times and the vibration continues for more than 5 seconds, it means that the damping force of the shock absorber is seriously insufficient; when turning at high speed (above 60km/h), the body roll angle increases significantly, and even a slight "tail swing" feeling appears, which may be due to the failure of the shock absorber support force; when braking suddenly, the front of the car sinks more than 10cm, or the rear of the car rises significantly when accelerating, indicating that the shock absorber cannot effectively suppress the body posture.

Appearance inspection

Regular (monthly recommended) inspection of the shock absorber appearance can detect problems in time. Wipe the shock absorber piston rod with a clean paper towel. If the paper towel is stained with oil and accompanied by liquid dripping, it is mostly due to the aging of the seal causing hydraulic oil leakage - when the oil loss exceeds 20%, the shock absorption function will be completely lost. At the same time, observe the connection parts: if the shock absorber spring has uneven spacing, lateral bending deformation, or cracking of the upper and lower bushings, and aging and hardening of the rubber, it will increase the burden on the shock absorber and the damaged parts need to be replaced simultaneously.

Professional testing

Going to the repair shop can accurately judge through two core tests: one is the "press test", which uses 50kg force to press one side of the car body vertically and then quickly release it. The normal shock absorber should stop vibrating within 1-2 times, and more than 3 times means that the damping fails; the second is the "stroke test", using a special instrument to measure the maximum compression of the shock absorber. If the deviation from the original standard value exceeds 15mm, it needs to be replaced immediately.

Generally speaking, the service life of a shock absorber is about 80,000-120,000 kilometers (it may be shortened to 50,000 kilometers in areas with poor road conditions). If any of the above situations occur, it is recommended to replace the adapter model in time to avoid driving safety affected by shock absorption failure and keep the vehicle in a stable and reliable driving state.
